Ann’s practice primarily focuses on providing legal counsel and advocacy to nonprofit organizations and small businesses. She brings a unique perspective to her client matters: she is the owner of 2 small businesses, has represented nonprofit organizations for nearly 5 years, has served as the CEO and President of a New York nonprofit organization and on the boards of several nonprofit organizations throughout the United States, and has worked with various governmental agencies as a regulator. Ann draws upon these experiences to develop the most effective legal solutions for her clients.
After graduating magna cum laude from Western New England College School of Law, Ann served as a law clerk at the Staff Attorney’s Office of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, where she researched and wrote bench memoranda and draft opinions on an array of civil and criminal issues. Later, Ann joined the New York City Council as a Legislative Attorney, where she developed and negotiated innovative legislation concerning health care, the elderly and public corruption.
In an effort to develop specialized knowledge in the area of tax law, Ann obtained her LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, where she specialized in tax matters affecting small businesses, and tax-exempt organizations. During this time, Ann had the privilege of serving as an extern to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, where she assisted with investigations of tax-exempt organizations accused of engaging in acts prohibited by federal tax law.
Ann also worked as an Associate at two District of Columbia-based law firms, renowned for their work with tax exempt organizations. While there, she exclusively represented tax-exempt organizations, advising her clients on a variety of tax, governance, and general corporate matters, including tax exemption applications, audits, tax planning, joint ventures, unrelated business tax, lobbying, and charitable solicitation, among other issues.
Ann is admitted in New York and the District of Columbia. She has co-authored numerous articles pertaining to the nonprofit sector. Ann enjoys helping her clients find innovative ways to fulfill their objectives.
